Windows Live Barcode
Wednesday, October 25, 2006 8:29 PM:

This morning in China, we went live with a little incubation project called Windows Live Barcode. The project allows users to generate QR-code style barcodes that can contain pretty much any data you want, from URLs to business card information. The technology behind the website is already used in Spaces in Japan to show barcodes for the Space URL. The site also has a lot of tools that allow users to create various barcodes, including one specific to be printed on business cards. I've put my business card as a barcode below. If you can decode it, shoot me a email to say hello. It's pretty rad and hats off to the team for getting it shipped.

The Windows Live Barcode Beta launch got me interested in QR Codes.  I did some research and found a basic reader for my  HTC TyTN (also known as Hermes, Cingular 8525, Vodafone VPA Compact III, Vodafone 1605, and the T-Mobile MDA Vario II).

Messing around with the technology was so much fun, I decided to start a little blog on the topic of QR Codes and two-dimensional barcodes for the consumer market.  I just have several posts now.

I would be interested in more information on the direction of Windows Live Barcode, if anyone can share.

Stop by if you like, leave a comment, make some suggestions.

There is a free application for mobile devices called "Qode" from Neomedia Technologies.

Go to www.qode.com

See also www.neom.com for a demo.    This product could be used for so much more than personal information in a code. What about pricing, navigation, information, coupons, direct link to content?

How will Microsoft tie into them and their new software Vista and Live search engine products?

Curious?  I do like the one click navigation to content with my mobile device.   Eliminate typing.  What a great idea!!!!!!!!!!
